Behavioral Health Innovation

Behavioral health is fundamental to belonging, learning, leadership, and long-term success. Boys and young men of color often navigate trauma, chronic stress, systemic inequities, and adverse experiences that affect their educational outcomes, relationships, decision-making, and overall well-being. Yet behavioral health services frequently remain disconnected from the youth development systems intended to support them.

The Sims-Fayola Foundation's Behavioral Health Innovation initiative exists to demonstrate a different approach.

As one of the Foundation's Proof-Point Implementation strategies, Behavioral Health Innovation integrates culturally responsive, trauma-informed clinical care directly into youth development programming. Rather than treating behavioral health as a separate service, the initiative intentionally weaves therapeutic support, positive youth development, leadership development, and systems of belonging into a single, coordinated model of care. This work is designed not only to improve outcomes for participating youth, but also to generate practical evidence that informs policy, leadership development, organizational practice, and systems improvement throughout Colorado.
